A Brief History

Storemen Specialty, Inc. was founded in 1973 by Jennings Layman, who engineered an especially reliable design for walk-in coolers and freezers. Despite many years in business, SSI has never had to replace any of its walk-in doors subjected to normal wear and tear. In 1985 Layman was succeeded by his son Eldon, who has remained president to this day.

Although SSI's staple has always been walk-ins, the company has expanded over the years. SSI offers a huge variety of new and used equipment for supermarkets, delis, restaurants and convenience stores. We carry even the smallest utensils needed to furnish your restaurant or store.
